We were really pleased with the experience and that is why we went on to retain her for our second project, our offices. She helped decorate for new homes that were going to be used by residents and our office. It was starting from scratch. “Before working with Magdalena, we were trying to tie concepts together throughout the house. We knew what we wanted and what finishes we wanted to use, but we didn’t know how to tie it all together. We needed to find someone to help us. Magdalena was able to see the bigger picture and help the materials come together throughout the house, and that was really important to us.

I was worried about bringing another party into the project – but my concern went away quickly as Magdalena easily stepped into her role. She was great at working with everyone. I wasn’t sure how a designer would fit in with everyone – the architect , the builder…and was worried about toes being stepped on, but Magdalena did a good job at fitting in and finding her place.

Our builder had worked with her and had good experiences. One of the things she brings to the table is discipline in decision making. That is really important with all of the decisions that need to be made throughout the course of a project.

Magdalena listens to all members of the family and has suggestions for unexpected things that makes the project really special. The finished project suits us perfectly and includes things we would never have thought of.

“We have worked with Magdalena on several design projects dating back to 1994. At that time, Magdalena put us in touch with an excellent craftsman for the construction of built-in cabinets for our family room. She also suggested and executed beautiful faux-finish painted walls in our newly-remodeled kitchen and family room. In 1995, Magdalena faux-finished our living room and dining room walls. Her talents as a painter and her eye for color have stood us well over time.

In 2001, Magdalena designed and supervised the complete remodel of our master bathroom. Her recommendations for contractors and craftsmen were excellent. Almost eight years later, our bathroom is still beautiful and functional, thanks to her design, and there is nothing we would change.

Our next project together was the purchase of major furniture pieces for our living room. Working with Magdalena’s suggestions, we now have a beautiful armoire as a focal point and several upholstered pieces that are both beautiful and comfortable.

Most recently, Magdalena undertook the re-design of our main bathroom and some further enhancements of the living room and dining room. The bathroom is used by guests as well as our children and it was important to us that we have a space that was fun for the kids but also presentable as a guest bathroom. Magdalena came up with an excellent design. Once again, her suggestion of a contractor was truly appreciated. The kids love their new bathroom and guests are very impressed. Magdalena designed a beautiful fireplace mantle and surround for our living room and we continue to work on completing the dining room. She has also advised on color selections for the walls. I particularly appreciate her talents for choosing color; I had numerous paint samples taped to the walls for months and could not find the right thing, but working for just an hour with Magdalena, we had the perfect colors chosen.

Magdalena runs her design business in a very professional manner and her warm and friendly personality stands out. Her relationships with contractors, craftspeople and vendors appear to be outstanding. It looks like everyone enjoys working with her. When we start a project, Magdalena listens to everything all members of the family have to say and she always has suggestions for things a little different or unexpected that makes the project really special. “Before working with Magdalena, we struggled with not knowing where to start and with space planning inside a small square footage. Before, we had thought that it would be expensive. Don’t be afraid of the cost, it is worth every penny! She was able to work directly with the contractor and alert us and the contractor if something wasn’t right (things that we would not have caught).

Magdalena got us to focus on our original inspiration and steer us back to what we really wanted. She was able to keep us on track when we started to deviate.

One of the things of great value was that she could locate fixtures, finishes and items that were not available in local retail establishments. An example was the stainless steel backsplash that was extremely expensive in all of the local stores, but with Magdalena’s resources, she was able to locate it so that it was affordable for us.

Now we have an award winning gourmet kitchen, and we also got an art deco, romantic master bedroom with a spa-like bathroom. Knowing where not to scrimp; in picking the tub, Magdalena was really clear that a cast iron tub was what was needed. Even though it was difficult for the contractors to get it into place, she told them it could be done… and they got it done.

We show off our home all the time and pass out Magdalena’s cards. I’m an artist and had an open studio. People were asking for samples of the materials used in our home. It was really fun to see that people were not only responding well to my artwork, but to the kitchen and the materials used also. I had extra samples so as people left I was passing out samples along with Magdalena’s card.

Magdalena has expertise and is really easy to work with. One of the things I felt was really important is that she would come to us as opposed to us needing to go to her.”
